Description:
This ancient and cobbled steeply descending street is probably the most photographed in Dorset. Its unique setting in the County's only hill-top town was made even more famous as the setting for the Hovis bread television commercial.
Shaftesbury, a Saxon fortified town, has a long history. In the Abbey in 981 A.D. Edward the Martyr, the 18 year old King, was buried after being murdered at Corfe Castle at the instigation of his stepmother.
