Biography

Since the age of 6, Kharyzma remembers her passion for the arts. At age 9, she got her first newspaper job as a news reporter at her elementary school in Brooklyn, NY. All throughout high school, Kharyzma studied Law; however it wasn't until January 2001 she finally followed her path! "Only as a double major at Long Island University in Journalism and Media Arts, am I able to complete me..both as a writer and photographer."
Kharyzma's talents are as diversified as her background - Born in Trinidad and raised in Brooklyn, with a strong dash of Venezuelan and a fine pinch of Asian - Kharyzma's limits are endless. Kharyzma is currently piecing together a self-portrait tribute to her roots. "With this project in-the-making, I plan to travel home to Trinidad and Venezuela in pursuit of tracing my ancestry". The project, in which I named "La Epifania: UN Viaje a mi Isla de la especia, yo Mismo, Mi Pasado, Mi Presente, Mi Futuro (Epiphany: A Journey to my Spice Island, Myself, My Past, My Present, My Future)," will combine social documentary and fashion photography. "Look forward to total juxtaposed elements." Upon completion, Kharyzma plans to produce the images in a Photojournalistic book form with inevitably stunning images. "I chose the word epiphany because I suddenly realized what important roles our cultural aspects play in who we are, where we are from and where we will end up! To truly know who you are and love yourself unconditionally does not involve our outer selves, such as how we look and how we are perceived by our social surroundings, but how we Embrace our past, Live the present, and Plan our future".
This photographer/writer/PR specialists & graphic artist took her time to learn and perfect her craft. Kharyzma has been published in the Canarsie Courier, a Brooklyn based weekly and Seawanhaka, Long Island Universities Brooklyn campus' newspaper. She even maintained an editorial position as the fashion editor of Seawanhaka. "With photojournalism as my backbone, I believe I can accomplish just about anything!"
With the launch of Kharyzmatic Studios, LLC, Kharyzma hopes to supply her clients with all inclusive components, resulting in the perfect photo shoot! "What's a shoot without the make-up, the stylist, the designer, the model and of course the photographer?"

KS uses pro-digital, black and white, color, alternative processes (liquid emulsion, van dyke brown, cyanotype, etc.) in digital, medium and 35mm formats.
